6 Tips to Increase Your Home’s Value

Are you thinking of moving house? If so, you may want to think about some simple ways of increasing the value of your current home before you put it on the market. With a little imagination and a little expense, you can achieve amazing results that give your home's appearance – and its value – a huge boost.

Here are some top tips to get you started;

  1. Invest in good storage systems.
No one wants to see clutter in a house they are thinking of buying. Having a clutter-free home gives an impression of space and calm, which will appeal to potential buyers. They will easily be able to imagine themselves relaxing in the large and airy space within your home, which is exactly what you want to achieve.

2.  Plant trees.
Everyone likes trees. Planting a tree in your garden can enhance the value of the house as much as installing a new bathroom. If you want a deciduous tree, plant it on the north side of the house - it will provide shade from the harsh summer sun, but when the leaves fall, it will let sunlight through to provide some warmth. Just be careful that it doesn’t block light from your neighbour’s plants.

3. Revamp the garden
The front garden is the first thing about your house that visitors will see so it needs to give a good impression. But don’t neglect the back garden, which is where any potential purchasers will visualise themselves relaxing in the sun.

Tidy and weed the flowerbeds and mow the lawn. Clean and repair all garden paths and look after your driveway. Invest in concrete sealing in Sydney to facilitate easier cleaning, to reduce staining and to protect the surface against the harsh Australian weather.

4.  Spruce up the floors
If your floor coverings are looking a little jaded, get them professionally cleaned as a clean carpet can look almost new. Even better, if your budget allows, invest in hardwood flooring as doing so will create a sleek, more up-to-date look.

5. Think about the kitchen
Kitchens can date fairly quickly, so have a look at local showrooms or DIY shops to see if you can replace the doors on your kitchen units.  Adding a new benchtop will also give a completely different feel to the room but make sure any new items team with the colour of the floor - you can paint walls, but changing the kitchen floor is tricky!

6. Clean
Last but not least, give the whole house a spring-clean. If you can get a professional company to do it, even better - you can leave it to them, and they will finish the job in a quarter of the time it will take you to do it. Everything will sparkle and, more importantly, it will smell great too, giving more meaning to the phrase ‘Home sweet home’.
